It seems the wedding may not actually mean they are married.
According to Metro (so it must be right):
According to specialist, Malgras Benoit, couples wishing to marry on the islands must live near the wedding spot for at least 30 days for it to be valid.
He said: 'A marriage on the beach would be like… a fake marriage. It's not a real marriage, if it is on the beach with only a local priest', says Benoit.
'I think it was just an exotic, artistic 'marriage' he said.
'You need to have residence for at least 30 days – one month in the island of Bora Bora for instance – and this is not the case,' he explained.
The lawyer did say there was an exception to the 30 day rule but only if the ceremony takes place in the town hall in front of the mayor.
If they had to do it again, then it would be an opportunity to invite their children.
