Times foreign correspondent Henry Samuel was there when the earthquake struck L'Aquila on Monday. Amid the devastation, he somehow managed to find a hotel still standing and open to customers. Miraculously, the Hotel Federico II was the only place welcoming guests. But it wasn't quite as unscathed as he thought.
"There was plaster dust on the floor. But more, far more disconcerting was the large horizontal crack running across the wall by the bed, the smashed TV on the floor and the hole in the ceiling."
He forked out 120 euros and took the room out of desperation - a decision he probably regretted when he heard other guests had spent the night in their cars after spotting cracks in the walls.

It is very beautiful, It's strange how it is so lovely but yet not very well known, then you have the likes of modern hotels who are known but just for their design. But isnt this design at its height.
