Hotels are looking for all kinds of ways to make guests feel good about their carbon footprint these days. Lots of these are dull but worthy, such as introducing low flow toilets and using recycled packaging.
But celebrity haunt Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica, California, has come up with a fun way of getting guests involved in green practices.
The Shop with Chef package includes a trip to the Santa Monica farmers' market with chef Michael Reardon and his staff, a guided tour of the market and chance to help him decide that night's restaurant menu.
I stayed at Shutters as part of California road trip in June. The hotel has the feeling of an upmarket beach house, with lots of little details making you feel as though you are staying in a friend's home.
My room was luxurious but cosy, with Penguin books lining the shelves and a small balcony looking straight onto Santa Monica beach.
The hotel is also a prime spot for celeb spotting - we spied out Woody Harrelson tucking in to his dinner at the elegant hotel restaurant One Pico. If it's good enough for Woody..
