Travolution Blog has picked up on a new tool from Wikipedia which reveals the number of searches carried out for any keyword.
From the hotel brands I checked out, the most searches were entered for Hilton (8,556). The numbers peaked on 13 February - perhaps last minute Valentines Day research?
Other results for last month were:
Marriott - 4,624
Travelodge - 2,368
Four Seasons - 4,845
Plaza - 4,307
Dorchester - 2.562
Hotels lag way behind other aspects of travel. British Airways was searched for a whopping 230,694 times and even Thomas Cook attracted 8,742 searches.
Looks like customers are looking to other sources for their hotel information - mostly likely TripAdvisor and other social networking sites.
Why not try the tool for yourself?
And don't forget to admire the lovely rooftop pool (above) at the Hilton Molino Stucky in Venice, which I'll be checking out in May..

Why do you think people are searching on Wikipedia for hotel information? Surely they could get it from independent review sites and the official online portals.

Maybe they expect to find links to the hotel portal on there. Or pehaps in the case of the Hilton they want to find out the difference between its many brands..Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton by Hilton etc. I know I'm confused!

Or maybe they just click on one of the first few search results from google, which does tend to be wikipedia.

Keyword analysis does not have to be that hard. I believe many people get frozen and can't make a decision. Choose the best decision and move forward.

Hands down, Apple's app store wins by a mile. It's a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I'm not sure I'd want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.
